Six weeks in Kanab is all about my time at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Best Friends is the nation's largest animal sanctuary, and their goal is to have no more homeless pets. Since their inception 25 years ago, they've made big progress towards that goal, but there's still so much work to do.
My first day at the sanctuary was an amazing, full day tour of the sanctuary. I met some outrageously large rabbits, some extremely talkative parrots, and some grumpy pot bellied pigs, not to mention the dogs, cats, and horses.
Here's a clip of a pot bellied pig enjoying a belly rub from one of my fellow interns:
Who knew that pigs love belly rubs too?
What I loved most about the tour was seeing how dedication of the Best Friends Employees. They're really passionate about what they're doing. How many people can say that they're really passionate about their job? I admire that. And I admire the mission of Best Friends - no more homeless pets.
Please: Get your pets spayed or neutered! A dog who's not spayed or neutered can contribute to over 60,000 puppies over 7 years.
